The project
Kremenchuk is a commercial and industrial city in the south of the Poltava oblast in central Ukraine with a population of around 240,000. It is located around 300 kilometres south-east of Kyiv on both sides of the Dnipro River. In 2022, there were several missile attacks on the city following the escalation of the Russian war against the Ukraine. On 24 April 2022, a thermal power plant and a refinery were hit. The most serious attack to date occurred on 27 June 2022, when at least 20 people were killed in a missile attack on a shopping centre.
As the civilian infrastructure in Kremenchuk was severely damaged by the Russian war of aggression, GELSENWASSER AG decided to enter into a solidarity partnership with Kremenchukvodokanal, which was signed in August 2023.
Objectives
The main objective of this partnership is to procure materials for the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure. To this end, the material requirements for pumps, measuring instruments and electronic systems, for example, were evaluated and prioritised in joint discussions.
In addition to procuring the technical equipment, the Ukrainian water supplier Kremenchukvodokanal is also being advised on commissioning. The partners are in regular contact regarding the procurements, which are expected to be delivered to Kremenchuk in the first quarter of 2023.
