The project
The city of Bielefeld and the city of Cherkasy already concluded a solidarity partnership in December 2022. Since June 2023, this has been supplemented by a solidarity utility partnership between Bielefelder Stadtwerke and Cherkasyvodokanal.
The aim of the solidarity utility partnership is, on the one hand, to support the Ukrainian utility in the current difficult situation. On the other hand, the goal is to establish a long-term relationship with the partner in Cherkasy including corresponding company visits.
The coordination with the local operators is currently done online via email and also includes virtual technical advice and a corresponding peer-to-peer exchange if required. The selection of operating equipment is carried out according to the technical specifications of the Ukrainian operators by qualified planners from Stadtwerke Bielefeld.

Initially, seven partly electrically controlled butterfly valves in large pipeline dimensions are required for the water supply as well as a diesel pump for the disposal of wastewater from individual districts and are to be delivered to Ukraine at the earliest possible date.
Further support services are planned after close consultation with the chief engineer of Cherkasyvodokanal.
