Mykolaivvodokanal

The municipal enterprise Mykolaivvodokanal (Mykolaiv, Ukraine) is responsible for the drinking water treatment, supply and drainage of the city of Mykolaiv. The rivers "Southern Bug" and "Inhulets" flow through Mykolaiv. The company supplies around 480,000 people with water.

Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerksgesellschaft mbH (RWW)

Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerksgesellschaft mbH (Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany) supplies the western Ruhr region and neighbouring Münsterland with drinking and industrial water. The company serves over 900,000 customers and the local industry. RWW has been in existence for over 100 years, employs 450 people and has a pipeline network of over 3000 kilometres.

The project

Since the escalation of the Russian attacks on Ukraine, the critical infrastructure in Mykolaiv has been severely damaged. From April 2022, the freshwater supply in the city failed and most districts are still without a central water supply (as of December 2023). The supply is dependent on untreated fallow water from the river.

Due to this destruction, Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerksgesellschaft mbH entered into a solidarity partnership with Mykolaivvodokanal in September 2023.

Objectives

The aim of the project is to procure the necessary equipment for the Ukrainian partner companies. The requirements for this were determined in initial joint discussions. Among other things, mini-excavators are needed to restore the water supply and material for repairing the city networks, which will be delivered during the first quarter of 2024.

RWW is providing expertise and contacts in purchasing as well as technical expertise. This will enable the most timely and cost-effective procurement possible.
